Homecoming 2009

2009 is the Year of Homecoming when Scots, descendents of Scots and anyone who loves Scotland are encouraged to celebrate all that makes ‘home’ so special. Many visitors from overseas will be coming to Lochaber to honour their families and trace their history – they may have already started to do so online or through societies, but will now have the opportunity to walk in footsteps of their ancestors. Want to find out more? Visit the Ancestral Scotland website.

Fancy a ‘Walk into History’? The Outdoor Capital have created a guide to 8 cultural and historic walks around Lochaber which take in iconic landmarks, industrial heritage, social history and, of course, stunning locations. Pick up a leaflet in one of hundreds of locations in the area, or view an online version here.

In Lochaber, a number of events will be taking place, including the Clan Cameron Gathering at the end of July. Everything from informal ceilidhs to full blown music festivals such as the Blas, from guided walks to Highland Games, there will be something for everyone. Every weekday, the Lochaber Homecoming Hub, located in Lochaber College, offers talks, demonstrations, photographic displays and culture, not to mention a mini-ceilidh each Wednesday night.
